Our childhood experiences shape who we are today. John Bowlby developed the attachment theory and suggests that we have an internal working model which is how we view our self, others and the world around us. Childhood experiences can be a huge trigger for anxiety. Other triggers include physical or emotional abuse, neglect, grief, being bullied or socially excluded and different parenting styles. Current life problems can also cause anxiety, such as work, money problems, losing a loved one or abusive relationships. Another common trigger is drugs.
You may not be aware that you are suffering from anxiety so here are the signs to look out for.
feeling restless, wound-up or on-edge
fatigue
difficulty concentrating
being irritable
head aches
muscle aches
stomach pains
difficulty controlling feelings of worry
sleep problems
There are many different treatments for anxiety and it depends on what works best for you. Some people prefer talking therapies and there is also hypnotherapy. Few people chose medication for anxiety treatment as it doesn't deal with the deeper issue.
